For all of its violence, savagery and sexual violence, Game of Thrones can be a surprisingly silly show – off-screen of course.

Star Emilia Clarke shared one example during her stop on Friday’s Graham Norton Show:

Early in the series, Khal Drogo, her character’s former husband, rapes her. Except that actor Jason Momoa (who’s funny once you get a “little bit of whiskey” in him, Clarke said) decided during filming “to not use a modesty sock but use a beautiful pink fluffy sock” as a way of lightening a dark moment.

“So getting that close-up from me looking petrified and just like I didn’t want it to happen was just lots of laughter,” she said – adding, “It’s huge and it’s big and I don’t know what to do” before a scandalized smile broke across her face.

“I just said that, yeah!”

Couchmate Jake Gyllenhaal seemed equally scandalized, and playfully scooted a few inches away.
