Fallon went first in the battle, which featured Justin Timberlake as the somewhat-impartial judge.
“I can’t wait to judge you,” the singer joked as he sipped what he claimed was definitely not coffee.
After Fallon performed The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside,” DeGeneres took on Diana Ross’ theme from Mahogany “Do You Know Where You’re Going To.”
It was an emotional tour de force that had Timberlake complaining afterwards that his cheeks hurt.
“I’m not sure if I can top that one but I’m going to try,” Fallon said as he launched into Silenté’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae-Nae).”
And while it was entertaining watching the talk show host transition through all the dance moves described in the song, seeing Timberlake genuinely crack up as he saw his pal do the “stanky leg” was a GIF-able moment.
DeGeneres then described the next song she was going to lip sync, saying, “This song is a business transaction that I believe that happened. Someone loaned someone some cash. Either they forgot that they borrowed it or they don’t want to pay it back, at least not in a timely manner, and this person wants the cash and is aggravated and frustrated.”
The song was Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money.”
DeGeneres’ mic drop said it all.
