Steve Carell does not mess around when it comes to Halloween.

The Freeheld actor, 53, told Ellen DeGeneres during an appearance on her show Tuesday that he lives in a neighborhood infamous for going all-out on the night of the dead, so the pressure to scare is at an all time high.

“There’s one house that builds half a pirate ship that’s sunken into the ground,” he told DeGeneres. “A huge 20-foot thing – with real pirates and smoke machines.”

But Carell isn’t about to let a measly pirate ship show him up. “I get into it,” he admitted. In fact, Carell has already started collecting the perfect yard decorations that he believes are sure to get a good scream out of the neighborhood kids.

He recently got a set of motion-sensored cats and dogs that hide in the bushes and growl and jump out as people walk by.

“People go crazy,” he bragged.

But his animatronic dogs and cats were nothing compared to the Halloween decoration DeGeneres had in mind. Wanting to help Carell out, she gave him a cutout replica of herself sitting in a chair that popped up and screamed whenever someone came close.

As the cutout started lowering itself back into its seat, Carell couldn’t contain his laughter.

“That’s exactly how you sit down, too,” he laughed.

But the best reaction came when DeGeneres and Carell decided to test out the decoration together.

The video speaks (screams?) for itself: Watch it above.
