Ed Sheeran‘s international ubiquity is extending to the small screen.

The star, 24, recently filmed a cameo appearance on the Australian soap Home and Away while on tour in the country, and PEOPLE has a look at some of his scenes.

Sheeran plays Teddy, a child that character Marilyn Chambers (Emily Symons) used to nanny for, who happened to grow up to be a famous musician. On his return, treats his former caretaker to a special performance in a local diner.

“It was an awesome experience filming with Ed because he seemed like a really down-to-earth, nice guy that genuinely wanted to be there,” actor Alec Snow, who plays Matt Page, said. “It was funny seeing how star-struck everyone both on and off set was. It was quite entertaining seeing the effect he had on everyone around him.”

Sheeran previously called the soap an “institution.”

“It’s always on in my local chip shop,” he added. “I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun.”
