Melanie Brown was once Scary Spice, but now she is just plain Busy Spice, according to Dancing with the Stars partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
“She’s working hard. It’s just difficult to get her focused for more than 15 seconds. Serious A.D.D. There is zero attention span,” Chmerkovskiy tells PEOPLE. “But she’s a great person and she has a lot of very positive energy.”
Chmerkovskiy was speaking at ‘Frosted Pink’, an Ice Skating TV show benefiting breast cancer research, held at Barker Hanger, Santa Monica, on Oct. 6.
The last six months have been monumental for the England-born Brown, 32. Motherhood–along with a paternity battle with Eddie Murphy–a planned Spice Girl reunion and a second marriage all on top of her DWTS commitments. “She just has a lot of things on her plate. She’s just normal that kind of person. Everything has to be fun. If it’s not fun, she doesn’t want to be a part of it,” says Chmerkovskiy.
Despite the hectic schedule, Chmerkovskiy claims this cast tops all previous contenders. “Best cast ever. The friendliest group of . We don’t want to see anyone go,” says Chmerkovskiy. “We are all very connected and have our poker nights and we go out together. I’ve connected with I never thought I would like Wayne Newton. He just wants to hang out with us all the time. Marie Osmond, I thought she was going to be reserved. She’s the funnest girl ever. Backstage is a lot of fun.”
And there’s more fun to come for Chmerkovskiy, as he will fly to Britain as an honorary Spice Boy alongside Mel B. “We’re flying to England for Melanie to shoot a Spice Girl video. I’m gonna be dragging along on the set of the video,” says Chmerkovskiy.
The Ukraine-born latin dance star has already planned what he will do with the most famous Spice Boy–Victoria Beckham’s soccer star husband. “David Beckham and I are going to get coffee while they’re shooting.” –Pete Norman, with reporting by Kimberly Lansing
