It’s finally happened: the Duggar kids have taken over!

For the first time ever, several of the Duggar children – John David, 20, Jill, 19, and Jessa, 18 – were in control of production of 19 Kids and Counting, the TLC reality show about their unusually large family.

“We thought it would be awesome to do a production ourselves,” says Jill, who served as one of the producers on the show. “We had no clue what we were doing.”

From deciding what to film, shooting the scenes, handling sound and even helping with editing at the TLC offices, the Duggar kids put together an episode that features mom Michelle’s 44th birthday and a family trip to Washington, D.C.

While on vacation, the family (minus Mom Michelle and a now-healthy baby Josie, 11 months, who stayed home together) visited D.C. landmarks, a cupcake shop and a pizza parlor, where they ate super-sized slices. (Watch an exclusive clip of their lunch stop.)

The Duggar kids flew solo for much of the episode. “The crew told them how to [use the equipment] and left them to do it,” says Joshia, 14. “They did it all.”

The Duggars kids’ filming special: 19 Kids and Counting: Duggars Make a Movie will air Sunday (8 p.m. ET) on TLC.
