The romance rumors are surging yet again after Drake surprised Rihanna with an over-the-top gesture.

The rapper purchased a billboard somewhere in Los Angeles to congratulate the songstress on her prestigious Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award which she will be receiving at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

“Congratulations to Rihanna from Drake and Everyone at OVO,” the billboard read.

It appears the signage caught RiRi’s attention as she responded to her rumored boyfriend’s gift on Friday. “When he extra,” the singer captioned a photo of the billboard along with heart and trophy emojis.

A source told PEOPLE exclusively this year the pair were secretly dating.

“They have been keeping it a secret because this time around, they want to do it right and keep their relationship private,” the source close to the couple told PEOPLE earlier this year. Added another insider: “They are still dating. Things get more serious when they’re in the same place.”

Black-ish star Yara Shahidi was the first to tweet about Drake’s present.

It was announced on Friday that Rihanna will be opening the show. Though the major details of her VMA performance are still under wraps, the show’s executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic recently told Entertainment Weekly, “Everyone will be surprised with what she’s done to make this honor her own and something that’s extremely impactful.”

Adding, “I can tell you it’s going to be one of those holy crap VMA moments.”

Perhaps Drake will make a surprise appearance?

The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards air live on Sunday, with a pre-show beginning at 8 p.m. ET and the big show at 9 p.m. ET.
