The pair reunited on Tuesday for a special BAFTA event honoring the show in Richmond, England
Be still, our beating hearts: Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley have reunited.
Nearly three years after Dan Stevens‘ Downton Abbey character Matthew Crawley’s devastating death at the end of season 3, the actor reunited with his on-screen wife Michelle Dockery at a special BAFTA event Tuesday in Richmond, England.
Dockery (a.k.a. feisty heiress and widow Mary) took to Instagram to post an adorable reunion photo of the two.
“Reunited. @thatdanstevens I’ve missed this face,” she wrote as the caption to the sweet black-and-white picture, where she has one arm wrapped around Stevens, 32. “#bafta #LastDaysofDownton #matthewandmary.”
Dockery, 33, also posted a photo of the special award the cast and crew received from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts to honor the popular British show as it wraps its sixth and final season.
“Thank you @BAFTA for a magical evening,” she wrote. “#LastDaysofDownton.”
Dockery has certainly had an emotional week documenting the cast and crew of Downton Abbey filming the show’s last season.
The actress shared a photo of herself with twins Oliver and Zac Barker (who play Mary and Matthew’s son, George) on Monday, which marked her final day of shooting.
“Today is the last day of what has been the most glorious 6 years of my life,” she wrote. “I am so grateful to have been part of this family.”
Downton Abbey season 6 will air in the United States next winter on PBS.
