"The question remains: What is your future?"

"You are stronger than you think."

"We don’t have a minute to waste, you and I."

Is Downton Abbey‘s latest promo addressing the characters on the show or, in fact, loyal viewers and their broken hearts?

PEOPLE can exclusively premiere a new teaser for the period drama’s sixth and final season that features sizzling yearning between Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and her new love interest Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode), more heart-wrenching strain in the seemingly doomed relationship between Anna (Joanne Froggatt) and Bates (Brendan Coyle), and a shipper-stoking moment between Carson (Jim Carter) and Hughes (Phyllis Logan) – and that’s just for starters.

With just a few episodes left, there are so many questions to be answered: Will Lady Mary – not to mention her chronically star-crossed sister Edith ( Laura Carmichael) – find true love? Will the staircase between “upstairs” and “downstairs” shrink in season 6? Will Anna and Bates finally get their much deserved happy ending? And what final stinger will Violet the Dowager Countess (Dame Maggie Smith) dispatch before Downton fades to black?

As the Earl of Grantham himself (Hugh Bonneville) says: “I’m looking forward to this!”

Downton Abbey‘s final season premieres Jan. 3 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS Masterpiece.
