Donny Osmond on Dancing: Maybe Next Year
Say this for Donny Osmond: his appeal never fades.
Teaming up with younger (by two years) sister Marie for a show set to open at the Las Vegas MGM in July — “It sold out eight months before the engagement, says the 50-year-old, who earlier this week made Sherri Shepherd squeal on The View just by showing up — Osmond may also follow his versatile sibling’s footsteps by competing on Dancing With the Stars.
“I’m seriously considering next year,” Osmond tells USA Today in a Q&A. “We’re planning on incorporating dancing into our Vegas show. We want to create a little bit of competition between us — like the two gangs in West Side Story.”
It wouldn’t be the first time that Osmond has had a reality-show contract dangled before his still-wholesome face.
“The one that comes to mind was a concept of the Osbournes and the Osmonds in the same house,” he says. “It didn’t get very far, but I probably would have done it.”
What will happen, he says, is, “Marie and I are looking at doing more. I’m also putting together a tour — the first time in 27 years that the Osmond brothers and Marie will tour together. We’ll be including film footage of us from 1973 shot at something called Osmondmania.”
Until then, fans will simply have to contend with Osmond in the new Martin Lawrence movie comedy College Road Trip — on whose poster, notes USA Today, Osmond bears an uncanny resemblance to Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block.
