Presidential hopeful and GOP front-runner Donald Trump has a concealed weapons permit and believes that if someone had been armed during the Oregon college shooting earlier this month, “the result would’ve been better.”

During an appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation, Trump described himself as a “big Second Amendment person” and spoke to host John Dickerson about the permit he obtained “years ago.”

“I like to have myself protected,” he told Dickerson of why he got the permit, before adding that he only carries a gun “sometimes.”

The 69-year-old mogul has long made his stance about second amendment rights clear. His position on the hot button issue is featured on his website alongside his other major policy proposals including immigration and tax reform.

During the interview, the business magnate weighed in on the Umpqua Community College shooting – which left 10 dead, including the gunman Chris Harper Mercer – saying, “had somebody in that room had a gun, the result would’ve been better.”

Trump previously revealed in the detailed plan titled “Protecting Our Second Amendment Rights Will Make America Great Again” that he has a concealed carry permit.

Although he has long called for the “protection” of second amendment rights, Trump said the decision to get a permit is up to the individual.

“That’s up to them. But I will tell you, I feel much better being armed,” he said during the interview.

He also weighed in on whether schoolteachers should carry firearms.

“I think that if you had the teacher, assuming they knew how to use the weapon, which hopefully they would, you would’ve been a lot better when this maniac walked into class starting to shoot people,” he said.
