When they’re campaigning to run the country, Simon Cowell suspects Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump might have some major talent – and he naturally wants them to show it off on his reality competition.

The America’s Got Talent judge told PEOPLE on Tuesday that he has “formally invited Hillary and Donald to be part of the final this year because I just heard Senator [Tim] Kaine on the harmonica – he was very good.”

“I think we can take it a stage further in addition to the debates, why don’t we invite them on?” proposed the 56-year-old Brit. “They can sing, dance, whatever they want.”

Though Cowell admitted that he hasn’t actually sent the invite, it’s in the works.

“I only just thought of it now, it sort of just came into my head,” he explained. “So we’re going to put the invite out and it sort of changes the election process a little bit. It would be good, right?”

With Grace VanderWaal (the tiny powerhouse who has continually been compared to Taylor Swift), the cutest magicians you’ll ever see and a contortionist who’s made a name for himself by putting his legs behind head and swinging through the air by only a mouth guard, this season’s Sept. 14 finale will be one for the books.

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays and Wednesdays (8 p.m. ET) on NBC.
