Tiger King Star Dillon Passage Arrested in Texas, Charged with DWI
Dillon Passage is married to disgraced former zookeeper Joe Exotic
At approximately 1:30 a.m. local time, Passage — who is married to disgraced former zookeeper Joe Exotic (a.k.a. Joseph Maldonado-Passage) — was stopped by police on the highway, according to the Manor Police Department. After a subsequent investigation, police determined that Passage, 25, was not fit to safely operate his vehicle and he was arrested for DWI “as well as an outstanding warrant for Resisting Arrest.”
He was then transported to the Travis County Jail.
“Mr. Passage made Officers aware of his social status and marriage to famed Joe Maldonado-Passage (Tiger King) on scene of the incident,” police said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “Regardless of social status, The Manor Police Department will treat every person fairly and enforce violations of law no matter who the violator may be. Driving while intoxicated is a dangerous violation that takes the lives of innocent people to include the young lady who was killed less than a mile from this incident location just days before."
Late Saturday night, the Netflix star also posted an Instagram Story that appeared to show him during a night out.
In April, Passage told Entertainment Tonight that he was battling depression and drug addiction when he met his husband during the filming of Tiger King.
"It's something that is a day-to-day thing," he said. "It's kind of my normal life now. It's kind of weird to say, but I've kind of gotten used to our situation."
"The only thing that's keeping us going is really just hoping for the best and these lawyers seem like they have a really good plan to kind of get things executed," Passage explained.
Maldonado-Passage is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted in April 2019 of plotting a murder-for-hire against animal rights activist Carole Baskin, among other charges. He is being held at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Maldonado-Passage and his husband got engaged a short time after meeting and were married on Dec. 11, 2017, just two months after Maldonado-Passage's previous husband, Travis Maldonado, accidentally shot himself and died.
