Diane von Furstenberg‘s advice does not go out of style.

The fashion icon, 68, has learned a thing or two about self-confidence and female empowerment after decades of success in the industry. As she prepares to return to TV for the second season of House of DVF, the creator of the wrap dress hopes to share her hard-earned wisdom with the next generation of enterprising women.

“The first advice I give anybody is that the most important relationship in life is the one you have with yourself. And therefore you have to be very true to yourself, demanding on yourself, hard on yourself,” von Furstenberg told PEOPLE at NBC’s Summer Press Day on Wednesday in New York City.

“I am a feminist, and I really want every woman to be strong and know that she can be the woman she wants to be and not a doll,” she said. “Happiness is not in fake [breasts].”

On House of DVF, her E! reality show, von Furstenberg searches for a young woman to become her newest brand ambassador. After the popularity of the first season, which ended with the victory of San Francisco’s Brittany Hampton, von Furstenberg previewed some changes that fans can expect to see in the second season.

“Because of the success of the show, we had hundreds and thousands of people wanting to go in. So as a result, the people that I ended up with were a little bit more professional,” she said. “The challenges I make them do [are] bigger, and every episode is quite substantial.”

The winner of season 2 may be a mystery, but one thing is certainly not under wraps: von Furstenberg’s stellar advice for young women worldwide.
