Multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE that both Derek Hough and his sister Julianne Hough will make a return for season 23 of the ABC dancing reality series. Julianne, 28, who served as judge on seasons 19 through 21 after appearing as a professional dancer on seasons 4 through 8, will return for season 23 at the judge’s table. Derek, 31, has become a fan favorite throughout his 16 seasons as a professional dancer on the show. He most recently scored his sixth Mirror Ball trophy with Bindi Irwin on season 21. The brother-sister duo will join brothers Maksim and Valentin Chmerkovskiy for the upcoming season. Though Maks, who is expecting a son with fellow professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd, took a four-season break from competing on DWTS, he said to GMA of his return, “The last 12 years of my life had some sort of relationship to the show … I just wanted this to continue … the feeling and positivity.” The Houghs and Chmerkovskiys will join previously announced pros Witney Carson, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Lindsay Arnold, Sasha Farber, Allison Holker and Gleb Savchenko for season 23. PEOPLE has also confirmed that Olympian Ryan Lochte will compete. Dancing with the Stars is slated to return Sept. 12 on ABC.
