'Jane the Virgin' Guest Star Denise Richards Reveals How She Helped Her Father Find Love

Denise Richards knows a thing or two about unconventional dating stories.

The actress will guest star as herself on Monday’s episode of Jane the Virgin as soap star Rojelio (Jaime Camil) uses a dating service to find love. But in real life, Richards has seen how online dating can lead to lasting relationships.

“A few years ago, my dad got the courage to start one of the websites to meet people,” Richards tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview.

But when her father wasn’t having any luck, Richard’s publicist offered to step in and help him with his profile.

“They were on the phone almost two hours tweaking my dad’s profile and it worked,” says Richards. “He met a woman and they’ve been together for a few years!”

“I think it’s nice – especially in my dad’s case,” she continues. “You usually meet people through work or through friends but he’s a little older and online gave him a great opportunity to meet people outside of that. I think it’s great that there are more avenues now for people to find love.”

Richard’s episode of Jane the Virgin also features Brooke Burke-Charvet and Carmen Electra, both whom echo Richard’s sentiments about unconventional forums for meeting people.

“Everyone is so busy these days, I think it’s important to find ways to meet people that works for you,” says Electra.

Adds Burke-Charvet: “I say, whatever works. Love can be hard enough to find without putting any restrictions on how you’re going to find it.”

Richards, Burke-Charvet and Electra’s episode of Jane the Virgin airs Monday at 9 p.m. ET on the CW.
