Dean McDermott had so many ways he wanted to celebrate Tori Spelling‘s 36th birthday that he took a long weekend to do them all.

On May 14, the actor surprised his wife with a new tattoo: A large Koi fish symbolizing Tori, a tiger representing Dean, and three baby Koi fish for Liam, 2, Stella, 11 months, and (McDermott’s son from a previous marriage) Jack, 10. The tattoo also featured peonies, which stand for health and prosperity, and the word “forever.”

“I did it to profess my undying love for my gorgeous wife and beautiful children,” McDermott says of the creation, which took Tim Hendricks at Spotlight Tattoo in Hollywood seven hours to complete. “She loved it when I revealed it to her. She thinks it’s beautiful, chic and sexy.”

The following day – Tori’s actual birthday – McDermott whisked her off for a weekend at hotel Casa del Mar in Santa Monica. And Saturday night, it was time for a party at the Vicery hotel, including a birthday cake from Hansen’s Cakes. Says McDermott: “She was totally surprised when she saw all her friends there. It was awesome and she had a wonderful time.”

Into the Surf

The weekend was capped off with a surfing lesson on Sunday morning. “When we were flying home from Canada, where we first met [on the set of the 2006 TV movie Mind Over Murder], we wrote down everything we wanted to do together,” says McDermott. “Surfing was one of them and I wanted her to have that experience.”

“I wanted her to have a special birthday because she’s the love of my life,” he says of the weekend. “She deserves the world.”

And Spelling appreciated every minute of it – even the scary parts. “It was amazing and relaxing,” she says on her Celebrity MySpace page. We spent the weekend watching pay per-view-horror flicks and having room service in bed! It was great to have time alone with Dean but we both missed our babies!”

The whirlwind weekend fit right in with the couple’s whirlwind life.

McDermott recently participated in his first WERA Motorcycle Roadracing competition at the Buttonwillow Race Track in Buttonwillow, Calif. He finished 9th in the 20 lap race, reaching a top speed of 138 miles/hour.

“Liam loved it!” McDermott says. “Every time I went by, he yelled ‘Daddy! Daddy!’ ”

Meanwhile, the season premiere of the couple’s reality show, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, premieres on Oxygen on May 26, and Tori’s latest book, Mommywood, is currently on The New York Times bestseller list.
