Entertainment TV See Every Star Who Returned from the Dead at the Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere The dearly departed members of the Game of Thrones cast — including the actors who played Ned Stark, King Joffrey, Hodor and more! — attended the season 8 premiere in New York City By Kara Warner Published on April 4, 2019 05:03 PM Share Tweet Pin Email Trending Videos Photo: Angela Weiss/AFP/Getty Images 01 of 12 Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) Angela Weiss/AFP/Getty Images Momoa's formidable Dothraki leader quickly became a fan-favorite, but he was killed off in the season finale of season 1. 02 of 12 Rose Leslie (Ygritte) Angela Weiss/AFP/Getty Images Leslie melted — and later broke — hearts with her portrayal of Ygritte, the Wildling woman who falls for Jon Snow (Kit Harington). Although the characters's romance ended when Ygritte was killed off in season 4, Leslie and Harington got married in 2018. 03 of 12 Sean Bean (Eddard "Ned" Stark) Sean Bean. Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images At the start of the series, Sean Bean was the most recognizable name and face in the cast. Viewers received the biggest shock in TV at the time when, in episode 9 of season 1, Stark was beheaded, setting off the war for the Iron Throne in spectacular fashion. 04 of 12 Pedro Pascal (Oberyn "The Red Viper" Martell) Jamie McCarthy/WireImage Pascal was easily the fan-favorite of season 4 as the overly confident and charming Obertyn Martell, aka The Red Viper. His character's death — having his skull crushed by The Mountain — is easily one of the most shocking moments on the show. 05 of 12 Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images Although her character was one of the best power players on the show, wheeling and dealing her rank and position — usually via advantageous marriages — Dormer's Margaery Tyrell went up in literal flames in the season 6 finale. 06 of 12 Jack Gleeson (King Joffrey Baratheon) Gleeson's Joffrey Baratheon was easily one of the most reviled characters in all of Game of Thrones. His slow, painful death in season 4 was a welcome one for many viewers. 07 of 12 Kristian Nairn (Hodor) Andrew H. Walker/Variety/REX/Shutterstock Nairn's beloved Hodor met a sad and gruesome end via the dreaded White Walkers in season 6. 08 of 12 Sibel Kekilli (Shae) ANGELA WEISS/AFP/Getty Images Kekilli played Tyrion Lannister's (Peter Dinklage) love interest and close confidante, Shae. Her death, at the hand of her former lover Tyrion, happened late in season 4 after she betrayed him. 09 of 12 Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon) Andrew H. Walker/Variety/REX/Shutterstock Although he was one of the earliest casualties in season 1, Addy's Robert Baratheon went out in a memorable way: drunk and due to a mortal wound from a wild boar. 10 of 12 Aidan Gillen (Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish) Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic All of Lord Baelish's wily, calculated, seemingly best-laid plans went deliciously awry in season 7 at the hand of Arya Stark. 11 of 12 Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister) Stephen Lovekin/REX/Shutterstock Lord Tywin Lannister's death was another welcome one to fans, and Dance got to go out in spectacular fashion: Tyrion shot him with a crossbow while he was sitting on the toilet. 12 of 12 Esmé Bianco (Ros) Andrew H. Walker/Variety/REX/Shutterstock Another character killed with a crossbow, only in even more vicious fashion. Bianco's Ros, who was a prostitute in Westeros and pawn in many of the Thrones players's plots, was Joffrey's first of many cold-blooded kills.
