David Letterman‘s departure from the Late Show may be getting more headlines than Craig Ferguson’s from The Late Late Show, but Letterman wants the world to take notice.

Ferguson announced Monday that he would be stepping down from his post in December when his contract expires. Letterman addressed the situation Tuesday night, calling it “too bad.”

” His show was unlike any other late-night show, and I’m telling you, to be unique in the world of television – virtually impossible,” Letterman said. “So congratulations to Craig on a great run and we all wish him well.”

Using your time in the spotlight to congratulate a peer on their work: Classy move, Dave. Both he and Ferguson will be missed.
