Barry Manilow‘s husband and manager, Garry Kief, also expressed his condolences in a statement to PEOPLE.
“David and I had a great five years working together. A comeback album. A comeback tour. And the cover of People. Every night he sang “I think I love you.” But I don’t think he ever accepted that they really did. I hope now he knows,” Kieff said.
In addition, Rosie Perez, Carnie Wilson, Marie Osmond and Marlee Matlin shared their fondest memories of the late star.
Most poignantly, Cassidy’s nephew, Jack, was the first family member to address fans and followers of the death.
“Thank you all for the love and support your giving my uncle, my family, and me… The responses have been sincerely beautiful!” the 19-year-old singer/songwriter tweeted.
In a follow-up tweet, he also wrote: “My uncle David Cassidy has sadly passed away tonight… & in the process of mourning I can’t help but thank God for the joy that he brought to countless millions of people! I don’t think I’m alone in saying that we will all miss him. God Speed!”
Other celebrities who remembered Cassidy included Tom Arnold, Diane Warren, Richard Marx, Kevin Smith and Gloria Gaynor.
Cassidy is survived by his son Beau with ex-wife Sue Shifrin-Cassidy; his daughter Katie; his brothers Shaun, Patrick and Ryan; step-mother Shirley Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
