Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller is a team leader (and an MVP!) on the football field.

But when it comes to the dance floor, he’ll be following his partner Witney Carson‘s lead.

Miller led the Broncos to Super Bowl victory earlier this year in San Francisco, and now, he’s trying out his dancing skills on Dancing With the Stars‘s 22nd season alongside pro and former mirror ball champ Carson.

And as different as the two sports may seem, the Dancing With the Stars pro says that at the end of the day, the approach to both the show and football isn’t all that different.

“We’ve got to be teammates,” Carson told PEOPLE. “Just like how he is on the field with his teammates, how they always have his back? That’s how we have to be as a partnership.”

Their partnership, Carson says, will be key in the quest to the mirror ball trophy.

“That’s what people fall in love with – the partnership you have,” she says. “We’re really going to work on that so we can make it to the top.”

And while he’s still working on his salsa, Carson says Miller’s devotion to his sport shows through in his dancing.

“He’s super hard worker,” she says. “He knows how to put in the hours.”

“You have to be dedicated and have to put in the time, because we don’t have a lot of time, and he gets that.”

That’s key for Miller’s DWTS success mindset. He’s also taking his cues from his Broncos coach, Gary Kubiak. After Miller asked him how they were going to win the Super Bowl, Kubiak told him “It’s on you.”

Carson says that work hard, do well attitude is what is driving Miller this season.

“He’s very confident that he puts in the time, if he dedicates himself to the craft, he’ll be successful.”

Season 22 of Dancing With the Stars premieres March 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
