Wanya Morris is feeling great about his Dancing with the Stars experience – and not just because he’s getting rave reviews.

The Boyz II Men member says he has lost 22 lbs. since beginning his DWTS journey a little more than a month ago. But his weight loss is not about a number on a scale for him.

“I feel great. I have a lot of energy,” he told PEOPLE after Monday’s show. “I’m able to continue and persevere in rehearsal. Even when I’m tired, I still feel the energy to continue, and I think I can attribute that to losing weight.”

Morris, 42, lamented to reporters that his current diet consists of “protein and salads, protein and salads,” but he’s seeing the results in his wardrobe fittings.

“Each week, the costume designers take in the clothes. We’re out on tour and every week they’re telling me, ‘We took it in another inch.’ ‘We took it in another inch,’ said Morris. “So by the end of the show, when we are holding the Mirrorball, hopefully I’ll be able to rip open my shirt like Nyle DiMarco!
