Super Bowl MVP (and New 'DWTS' Contestant) Von Miller on Peyton Manning's Retirement: 'It's Great Timing For Him'

The Super Bowl 50 MVP was announced as one of the season 22 cast members just one day after his team's quarterback retires

Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller isn’t done winning titles in 2016.

Miller, who was named MVP of Super Bowl 50 in February, says he decided to compete on Dancing with the Stars after seeing football pros like Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Emmitt Smith bust a move on the hit ABC show.

And how did his Super Bowl champ teammates react to the announcement?

“Lots of jokes,” he told reporters when PEOPLE asked about the Broncos’ reactions Tuesday. “But that’s just how the locker room is. A lot of personalities in the locker room. They find out one of the linebackers is going on Dancing with the Stars, and it’s just instant.”

One personality that will now be absent from the locker room is quarterback Peyton Manning, who retired yesterday after an 18-season career in the NFL.

“He’s the only player that has done everything that you could possibly do in the National Football League,” he said of Manning. “Over time, some people say that Peyton’s arm is not as strong or this and that, but one thing that he’s always had is great timing. It’s great timing for him. Eighteen years is a great number. Fresh off the Super Bowl, it’s perfect timing for him.”

For Miller’s partner Witney Carson, it’s also the perfect time to take home the Mirror Ball.

“I’m feeling good,” she told reporters of the pairing. “Von is a winner. He just won [the Super Bowl], so he knows how to do it, I know how to do it, and I feel like that is the right combination to win.”

Carson won season 19 withAlfonso Ribeiro. And while Miller might not be doing the “Carlton dance” on the show, Carson joked that her partner’s biggest assets going into the competition are “his sack moves!”

Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars airs live March 21 on ABC.
