brightcove.createExperiences(); Sometimes the Mirrorball Trophy isn’t the only reward for Dancing with the Stars‘ hopeful hoofers.

Many a celebrity has found love on the reality series, linking up with their pro partner or even with the other competitors off of the small screen. While many of the relationships certainly sizzled (and a few ultimately fizzled).

Before season 22 kicks off (and love matches are just maybe made), here are the five hottest DWTS hookups – and how they fared after the competition ended.

Karina Smirnoff and Mario Lopez

Karina Smirnoff and Mario Lopez narrowly missed victory on DWTS in 2006, but found much, much more.

Always coy about their relationship, Smirnoff and Lopez moved in together in 2007 and continued dating until the summer of 2008, when he admitted to being unfaithful.

Lopez went on to marry actress Courtney Mazza in 2012, with whom he shares two children, while Smirnoff danced her way into another DWTS cast member’s heart.

Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Smirnoff began dating Maksim Chmerkovskiy shortly after her split with Lopez, and the hunky pro proposed on New Year’s Eve Day in 2009.

They called off the engagement later that fall, though, with friends telling PEOPLE at the time that they didn’t agree when it came to starting a family. Chmerkovskiy is now set to marry fellow pro Peta Murgatroyd after an on-and-off romance.

Derek Hough and Shannon Elizabeth

Derek Hough and partner Shannon Elizabeth linked up romantically during the show’s sixth season.

After dating for nearly a year, the couple ended their relationship in 2009, making the announcement through matching tweets.

Chad Johnson and Cheryl Burke

Former football player Chad Johnson – once known as Chad Ochocinco – showered partner Cheryl Burke with gifts during their run on the ABC show, but the pair’s relationship never grew beyond a “fling.”

Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson

Wedding bells are ringing for partners Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson.

The couple got engaged in February after meeting during season 20 of the reality series. The Shark Tank billionaire decorated with rose petals and placed a ring box atop an inflatable swan in a pool for his big proposal.

Dancing with the Stars‘ 22nd season premieres Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
