Monday proved to be quite the comeback night on Dancing with the Stars for Roshon Fegan and his partner Chelsie Hightower.

With a 29-point foxtrot and 27 points for their paso doble group dance, Fegan says having his grandmothers in the studio during this week’s rehearsals and in the audience during Monday’s show is what caused his heightened performances.

“[My grandmas] were definitely my good-luck charm,” Fegan told reporters backstage after his night of high scoring. “They were prouder than ever.”

The Disney star continued with a laugh: “[One of my grandmas] says I’m going to be the president, so after Dancing with the Stars, I’m going to run for president. They’re my biggest fans, and I love them with all my heart.”

As for feeling embarrassed by having his dearest loved ones watch him prance shirtless around in the ballroom, Fegan wasn’t fazed in the least.

“My grandmas are super hip,” he explained to PEOPLE. “They might have a bad hip, but they’re still hip. They love it. They’ve always loved entertainment. They understand.”

With the season’s first double elimination on Tuesday, Hightower is relieved her partner finally came around just in time.

“Coming off in the bottom two, two weeks in a row, we knew if we wanted to stay in this competition, we really, really had to give it that fight,” she said. “So that’s what we did this week.”
