Everything is on the up and up for Romeo.

In the past five weeks, the actor-singer has steadily improved his moves – and scores – on Dancing with the Stars, all while growing his fan base.

“All of my friends that are girls, they tell me, ‘My mom has a crush on you. She s voting for you,’ ” Romeo, 21, tells PEOPLE.

Maybe that’s because the former child rapper – previously known as Lil Romeo – is now a strapping young man with washboard abs and a charming personality that has endeared him to women of all ages.

“Older women? I think that’s cool,” he says, smiling. “I love all the moms out there. These women make the world go ’round.”

Having a soccer mom fan base to support him “is definitely a good thing,” he says. “I came into this thinking the first week what have I done? I’m not going to like this.”

“But now,” says Romeo, “I’m so happy I’m on this adventure, and I’m not ready for it to end. I want to show people I can win this thing.”

Meanwhile, in his acting career Romeo stars in the new movie Jumping The Broom, in which his character also has an appreciation for older women.
