'Dancing with the Stars' : Who Rocked, Who Rolled Over

Spoilers: KISS gets the party started, followed by big performances and some missteps

They came, they danced, they rocked!

With KISS setting the party mood with a live performance, Dancing with the Stars thundered through rock-and-roll night Monday.

One couple found their psychedelic groove while another couldn’t quite take it anymore. And Melissa Gilbert gave so much that she ended up in the hospital. Read on for more.

It was the Summer of Love all over again when pro football player Donald Driver and partner Peta Murgatroyd delivered a paso doble to Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” that left the judges dazed and amused.

“Muscular, masculine, magnificent!” gushed Bruno Tonioli.

“What the heck?” asked Carrie Ann Inaba. “Psychedelic, bizarre, sexy, raunchy, hot. One of the most memorable moments. Spectacular, wow!”

Their 27 points put them just ahead of 26-point performances by Roshon Fegan/Chelsie Hightower (a “cute” waltz, said Inaba) and Maria Menounos/Derek Hough (a tango with “beauty, attitude and sex appeal,” said Tonioli).

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas delivered a fierce 24-point paso doble to Muse’s “Time Is Running Out,” while Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff lifted themselves from the basement with a respectable 23 points for a tango to “Paint It Black.”

Gilbert went to the hospital after her 22-point paso doble to The White Stripes’ “Conquest.” Also finishing with 22s were William Levy/Cheryl Burke with an uncharacteristically weak jive to “We’re Not Gonna Take It Anymore” and Jaleel White/Kym Johnson with a tango to “Satisfaction.”

Landing at the bottom were Sherri Shepherd/Val Chmerkovskiy with a 21-point tango to “Cum on Feel the Noize” and Gladys Knight/Tristan MacManus with a 20-point tango to “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
