Bindi Irwin found love right at home.

The teen conservationist met boyfriend Chandler Powell while he was in her native Australia for a professional wakeboarding competition and decided to stop by the Australia Zoo, where the Irwin family lives and works.

“She ended up giving me a tour, and we ended up staying in touch ever since,” Powell, 18, said Monday night on the Dancing with the Stars: All Access Web show.

“It was incredible,” added Bindi, 17. “I was like, ‘This guy from Florida’s okay!’ ”

Irwin, who scored straight 10s for her Dirty Dancing-themed routine Monday, recently opened up to PEOPLE about how the couple makes their long-distance relationship work.

“We talk every day and are together every two to three months,” she said. “Thankfully I’ve found someone who is an outdoors kind of person. We’ll go have adventures or picnic in the park.”

Watch the video about to hear how Powell is supporting Bindi while she’s competing on (it involves hot tea).

Dancing with the Stars airs Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
