Bindi Irwin Gushes About Derek Hough on Dancing with the Stars: 'He Feels Like an Older Brother'
"This is all about that teamwork," Bindi said of her work on the show
During Tuesday’s episode, she revealed just how badly she wants to make Derek Hough proud.
In a rehearsal clip, Bindi complained that she couldn’t quite get the steps she needed, and she used a colorful metaphor co-host Tom Bergeron would later tease her about.
“My brain is bugging me today,” said Bindi, 17. “If you could paint a picture right now – a picture of Bindi’s brain, it would be a beautiful daisy meadow, and there would be a fine mist over the meadow.”
In the live performance, she and Hough got a big response from the crowd by performing a waltz to “Only a Man” by Jonny Lang. But the judges docked points for including a lift in their routine. That’s a waltz no-no, though Bindi and Derek still managed to earn a 23 out of 30.
“It’s because of the love and support of my family and from Derek for being the most amazing teammate,” Bindi said when Erin Andrews asked how she handled the pressure. “This is all about that teamwork. Not only do I have a friend, he feels like an older brother and we’re working together.”
Afterwards, she continued sharing her admiration for her dance partenr. “He’s done so much in this life,” Bindi told PEOPLE. “He’s lived so many lifetimes in this one life, and it was a really beautiful dance and it was a privilege to be a part of it this evening. It’s been amazing.”
Dancing with the Stars returns Monday at 8 p.m. ET, with season 19 champion Alfonso Ribeiro
