After six years, Todd Chrisley‘s guardianship over his son Kyle has ended.

The guardianship officially ended in late October, according to court documents published on RadarOnline.

Todd, 46, whose family stars in their own popular reality show, Chrisley Knows Best, obtained legal guardianship over his troubled son Kyle in 2009. At the time, Kyle was 18.

According to the documents filed on Oct. 26, the court found that Kyle, now 24, was “no longer in need of a guardianship.”

Todd and Kyle, who is his oldest son, have had a strained relationship, and Todd previously spoke out about Kyle’s bipolar disorder.

In May 2014, an arrest warrant was issued for Kyle over an alleged altercation with the mother of his child.

“He has his struggles,” Todd, who now cares for Kyle’s daughter Chloe full-time with his wife Julie, told PEOPLE in October 2014. “As a family, we all continue to lift him up.”

Todd added that the family was trying to stay positive and focus on the future.

“I’m no different from anyone else,” he said. “I’m no better, I’m no worse. I think that the Lord has given us a second wind. We’re moving forward, and we’re blessed.”

Chrisley Knows Best returns Nov. 10 on USA.
