Sorry, Chris Noth, but this is one piece of advice we’re all happy Mariska Hargitay did not take!

On Tuesday’s episode of Live with Kelly, the former Law & Order star stopped by and told Kelly Ripa and her guest host, Morris Chestnut, 47, that he once tried giving Hargitay career advice before she landed her iconic role on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

“I shouldn’t give advice ever,” Noth, 61, told the hosts. “She may not remember this, but Mariska Hargitay … Dick Wolf had us go to a baseball game and he invited Marika and was going to offer this part on Special Victims.

“I remember being on the subway going in,” he began, “and she goes, ‘I don’t know whether to do this. What’s Law & Order?’ And I was like ‘Don’t do it …’ Longest running show ever.”

He continued to recall how he tried to get the Emmy-winning star to take a different acting path.

“I’m like, ‘Don’t do it. Go do some regional theatre,’ ” Noth remembered telling her.

“What do you think would have happened to her if she had listened to you?” asked Ripa.

“Not many people listen to me,” he joked.
