Fans waiting for Chris Evans to speak about his so-called “retirement” on Monday’s The Tonight Show turned out to be disappointed.

While silent on the topic of last week’s widely quoted Variety interview, in which he announced plans to quit acting, Evans instead talked about his workout routine for Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“We tried to do a little bit more gymnastics,” he said. “Balance beams,” he joked, adding, “I had a whole ribbon routine.”

“That’s what we want to see in IMAX 3D!” Fallon replied.

Though Fallon didn’t bring up the Variety interview, Evans did tell Good Morning America on Monday: “By no means am I planning on retiring. It’s kind of a silly statement. But I certainly am going to try to focus a bit more on directing at this point.”
