Don’t ever interrupt Chevy Chase when he’s in the middle of a conversation.

As comedian Rob Huebel revealed to Seth Meyers on Late Night, he learned that lesson the hard way.

Huebel, 45, first met Chase as part of the UCB Theater’s improv group ASSSSCAT. Chase was set to guest perform with the group, and Huebel decided to introduce himself to his “idol” before the show.

“So, I went up to him and I was like, ‘Chevy, I just want to say I’m a big fan,’ ” Huebel told Meyers, 41. “And Chevy just hauled off and slapped me across the face – so hard – I mean, it was like I saw red.”

The reason? “He just kinda made a joke, like, ‘Can’t you see I’m talking to somebody, kid?’ ”

However, while the general reaction to the incident was that it was “not so cool, Chevy,” as Huebel tells it, he was just thrilled to get slapped in the face by his hero. “I was like, ‘That’s awesome!’ ”

Added Huebel, “One day, if I’m playing my cards right, I’m gonna get to slap some young guy. Just paying it forward.”
