It’s like 2005 all over again, when Chad Michael Murray‘s four-month marriage to wife (and OTH costar) Sophia Bush ended. On Tuesday’s show, North Carolina’s sexiest bachelor Lucas (Murray) became eligible once again. He’s now a soon-to-be-published author, too. In a frenzied, mushy moment, Lucas flies to L.A. and drops to one knee to propose to longtime girlfriend, Peyton (Hilarie Burton). “You’re the one I want next to me when my dreams come true,” Lucas says. Surprisingly — and heartbreakingly — Peyton turns him down, as the ring’s box, still unopened, falls to the ground from Lucas’s hand.

Her excuse? “I am not saying no,” Peyton says. “I’m saying not now. I want to marry you someday.”

Minutes later, a New York literary agency calls Lucas on his iPhone, offering to publish his first novel. Cha-ching! As Peyton slings coffee for crabby L.A. agents, Lucas hops a plane back East — and realizes he’s single again.

Another former love interest, Brooke (real-life ex-wife Bush) urges him to move on from Peyton. “I feel lost, Brooke,” Lucas says. “I don’t know what to do without her.” Maybe she has some ideas? — Nicholas White
