Caitlyn Jenner calls Ted Cruz "one of the worst" candidates on LGBT issues

Caitlyn Jenner isn’t throwing her full support behind Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz.

The reality star has clarified statements she made earlier this month in an interview with The Advocate in which she said she “likes” the conservative Texan and volunteered to be his “trans ambassador.”

“I never said that I endorsed Ted Cruz,” she said during an international E! press junket on Thursday. “I said I like him. He is a constitutionalist, and I think we have to get our country back to something like that. Now, out of all the candidates, I also feel that as far as the LGBT community, he would probably be the worst and need the most help.”

“If that is the case … I would be at his front door,” she added. “Have they contacted me? No – which, yeah, I was kind of surprised.”

Jenner, 66, has taken heat this season on I Am Cait for her political views, which stand in stark contrast to those of her friends and fellow trans advocates on her bus tour around the country.

Jenner posed for photos with Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton but dismissed her as a “liar” and “political hack” in a clip.

During the junket, Jenner acknowledged, “I got too defensive … but that’s something that you learn.”

I Am Cait airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on E!
