A record number of people turned to social media to address Bruce Jenner's interview

Almost everyone had something to say about Bruce Jenner on social media Friday.

A record 972,000 Tweets from 403,000 unique authors weighed in Diane Sawyer’s interview with the 65-year-old Olympian – making it the most social Friday telecast of all time (excluding sporting events).

Nearly 17 million viewers tuned into the two-hour interview, during which Jenner said he was said he was born with the “soul of a female,” according to preliminary results from Nielsen.

The interview was ABC’s biggest non-sports broadcast for a Friday since 2003. It was easily the most-watched program of the night.

On social media, the interview outperformed the previous record-holder – Highwire over Niagara Falls on June 15, 2012 – by 237% in total tweets. Some of Friday’s more popular hashtags were #brave and #bebraveenoughtobekind.

After the two-hour interview, E! confirmed that Jenner would star in his own docuseries that will debut in July.
