Bette Midler Gives Her Blessing to Idina Menzel for Beaches Remake
"Bette Midler has been one of my all time idols," Menzel recently tweeted
The actress who brought CC Bloom to life in the 1988 tearjerker took to Twitter to applaud the casting of Broadway veteran Idina Menzel in the iconic role for Lifetime’s remake of the Oscar-nominated film.
The voice of Frozen‘s Queen Elsa, recently shared her hope to live up to Midler’s performance, writing on Twitter: “Bette Midler has been one of my all time idols. I hope I can make her proud.”
But it seems Menzel has nothing to worry about.
“Can’t wait to see Idina Menzel as CC in Lifetime’s ‘Beaches!'” Midler tweeted on Tuesday night, adding: “DON’T TELL ME THE ENDING!”

The remake will feature new takes on the classic songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love” and include several other songs recorded specifically for the movie.
It is not yet known who snagged the role of CC’s lifelong friend Hillary in the film, which begins shooting in Vancouver later this month.
The remake, which was announced just days after the death of the original film’s director, Gary Marshall, will be directed by Allison Anders.
The new version of Beaches is set to debut on Lifetime in 2017.
