Ramona Singer has already apologized for the "thoughtless comments" she made about Bethenny Frankel's late boyfriend Dennis Shields
Bethenny Frankel didn’t mince words on Wednesday’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen when discussing a comment her Real Housewives of New York City costar Ramona Singer made about Dennis Shields, Frankel’s late boyfriend.
In an episode of RHONY that aired last month, Singer criticized the 51-year-old businessman, who was found dead in his Trump Tower apartment on Aug. 10, 2018, from a suspected overdose.
Her words, which came just three weeks after Shields’ death, followed one of her castmates praising Shields’ intelligence. “How smart can Dennis be?” Singer asked. “I mean, he was on drugs.”
Before the episode even aired, Singer apologized for what she said. “I cringed when I saw what I said about Dennis in tonight’s episode. It definitely wasn’t one of my finer moments,” she wrote on social media. “I respected and liked him very much and I sincerely apologize to his family and Bethenny for my thoughtless comments.”
Frankel, 48, said she accepted the apology, but still dug into Singer, 62, when asked about it on WWHL.
“It was in really poor taste. It was actually fairly despicable — that would be a pretty bad word,” Frankel said. “People come up to me and say that over the course of 10 years she’s done some pretty nasty things, but that was by far the worst.”
She went on to tell Cohen about her alleged communication with Singer behind the scenes. “I said, ‘I don’t know what to say,’ ” Frankel recalled. “She said, ‘There is nothing to say.’ “
Singer had also asked Bravo to have her comment cut from the show to no success, Frankel claimed.
All in all, Frankel said she doesn’t “harbor resentment” toward Singer.
“I’m not angry — because I don’t feel anger anymore the way I used to in the show,” she said. “You can’t live it. I’ve been doing it for so long.”
Still, the Skinnygirl mogul made it clear she wasn’t Singer’s best friend. “It’s bad,” Frankel said. “And the thing is, she’s done it nonstop. Every single episode there’s another swipe, another slam.”
Frankel has been open on this season of RHONY about the complicated emotions she’s felt since Shields’ death.
The two met nearly 20 years ago when he dated (and later married) Jill Schwartzberg, one of her high school friends. They did not stay in touch, but Frankel and Shields shared other mutual pals and began dating in 2016, several months after he separated from Schwartzberg (and three years after she filed for divorce from ex-husband Jason Hoppy).
He eventually proposed to Frankel last April with a mega-carat rock, which she proudly wore. And though he was close with her 8-year-old daughter, Bryn, Frankel kept their engagement private and never really gave Shields a clear yes, telling him that things were on “ice” until some “conditions” had been met and “changes” made.

On the Saturday before Shields’ death, Frankel finally confessed: “I have to exit this dynamic,” she revealed on a recent episode.
“He had such a powerful force in my life and my daughter loved it, that it was like this whole thing that was hard to extricate myself from,” Frankel said.
After Shields was found dead that following Friday, Frankel said began to feel culpable. “There was a lot in my mind about him dying right after that. I could not get off the ride. I feel guilty that the only way I got off the ride is that he’s dead,” she said, wiping back tears. “I hope I didn’t have anything to do with him dying.”
“Dennis told me if we didn’t work out, he was never going to be in a relationship again. He was going to be alone for the rest of his life,” she told audiences. “It was a tremendous pressure, and it kept me in. I don’t know what happened that night, and I will always have to live with that for whatever that means.”
Frankel has since found love again, with real estate developer and film producer Paul Bernon.
The two made their relationship Instagram official in December when Frankel shared photos of the couple celebrating Christmas together in the Dominican Republic. They went on to ring in the New Year together in Mexico, joined by Bryn and his two kids, and have stayed close since.
Bernon was even by her side late last month, when she appeared in court in her ongoing custody battle against Hoppy.
“He’s incredible,” Frankel said on Wednesday’s WWHL. “He’s a beautiful human being inside and out. Yes, Bryn knows him and loves him. They’re very, very similar people.”
Meanwhile, the cause of Shields’ death still remains a mystery. The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office announced in August that an autopsy was not performed on his body due to a “religious objection.” Thus, his cause of death has been ruled “undetermined.”
Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen airs Sundays through Thursdays (11 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
