Britney Spears took the stage with G-Eazy Sunday night in New York, where she performed a mash-up of their current single “Make Me…” and the rapper’s breakout hit, “Me, Myself & I,” with Spears singing the infectious hook made famous by Rexha. Judging by her reaction on social media, rising star Rexha, 26, was as surprised as the rest of the audience at Madison Square Garden, posting the wide-eyed and blushing “flushed” emoji on Twitter just moments after the performance. Shortly after, Rexha got to rub elbows with the pop veteran, snapping a photo with Spears – who released her new album Glory – backstage. “Amazing moment hearing one of my idols perform MM&I tonight,” Rexha captioned the shot, alongside the “princess” emoji, on Instagram. As it turns out, Spears was just as tickled to hang with Rexha. Monday afternoon, she tweeted: “It was so great meeting you last night, @BebeRexha!! Thank you for letting me sing your amazing song wtih @G_Eazy!” It was the first trip to the VMAs for “No Broken Hearts” singer Rexha, who is featured on Martin Garrix‘s new single “In the Name of Love.” During the live telecast, she and fellow breakout Tove Lo took the stage to present an award. Spears, 34, is of course a staple when it comes to annual MTV spectacle and is responsible for some of its most memorable moments – from making her debut in 1999 with “…Baby One More Time” and sporting a yellow Burmese Python while performing “I’m a Slave 4 U” in 2001 to locking lips with Madonna and Christina Aguilera in 2003. This is the first year Spears has taken the VMAs stage since performing her iconic hit “Gimme More” in 2007.
