He’s not The Bachelor, he just plays one on TV.

B.J. Britt, who plays season 2’s leading man on Lifetime’s UnREAL, is one of the few people who knows what JoJo Fletcher is going through as she searches for love on The Bachelorette – and he has a very straightforward piece of advice for Fletcher.

“Just have an open heart and just give everyone a chance,” Britt, 34, advised the 25-year-old Texan on PEOPLE Now. “That’s advice that I would give myself.”

Britt also revealed what hard work went into getting his body ready for shirtless scenes and how he feels about playing the first African-American headliner on UnReal‘s show within a show, Everlasting.

“It’s about time there’s a first black suitor,” he said, adding, “just the way that the writers and producers are taking care of this character, the limits are endless. Season 1 was already [crazy], but season 2 just blows it out the water.”

UnREAL premieres Monday at 10 p.m. ET, and The Bachelorette is airing two nights this week – Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
