Shawn Booth is having a hard time watching his ex Kaitlyn Bristowe move on.

Booth, 31, opened up about his split from Bristowe, 33, in an upcoming special edition of fellow Bachelor Nation star’s Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti‘s podcast Almost Famous: In Depth, admitting it’s hard watching Bristowe date someone new.

“Not only were we engaged, but it was like, man, I lost my best friend too,” he said of the split. “It just feels like everything is completely gone, like that. Like Kaitlyn and Shawn, gone. We were this team and we got through a lot of stuff together but then just in an instant it’s all gone.”

Booth said he does his best to avoid social media, especially since Bristowe started seeing Bachelorette alum Jason Tartick.

“It’s nerve-wracking every time I pick up my phone. I haven’t been on Twitter in months just because I don’t want to scroll the mentions. Going on Instagram, I do that for business purposes, and always get caught with scrolling. that’s always tough. You just have a pit in your stomach.”

He continued: “That’s the hard part and with her moving on so quickly, I just have a tough time understanding why she would put this out everywhere, or blasting it all over the place, knowing that it could hurt.”

Bristowe and Tartick went public with their relationship earlier this month, but Booth said he first learned they were dating soon after former couple officially announced their split.

“We ended up, I would say, officially breaking up in September and announcing it in November,” he said. “That’s also around the same time I learned about Kaitlyn and Jason, in November.”

Booth admitted that watching Bristowe move on so quickly has made him question what their relationship meant to her.

“I’m just trying to figure out, I guess not why but trying to understand things right now. I guess this goes with her new relationship, too, it kind of makes me question everything that we had,” he said. “I think that’s one of the major questions that run through my mind, just trying to understand that. I think it’s tough to understand.”

But still, he is happy that she is has found happiness and is no longer struggling with their breakup.

“I do care about her, so I’m happy she doesn’t really have to deal with maybe all the pain and the heartbreak because it seems like she’s moved on and she’s happy,” he explained. “That does make me a little more comfortable knowing that, that she’s not at home at her empty house, so I look at it from that point of view. Seeing everything, it does upset me and it does make me a little angry, but it does help me move on knowing that maybe we weren’t right for each other and that I will find somebody down the road that will make me happy.”

Booth and Bristowe were together for over three years.

Bristowe opened up about the split on her podcast later that month, saying she thought they’d make things work.

“It’s been a really hard few months now,” she admitted. “I really did think we’d get through it.”

Bristowe and Booth eventually made the difficult decision to go their separate ways.

“There were some important fundamental values that weren’t lining up,” she said, adding that there were also “some things we’d probably never see eye-to-eye on. We were left with no choice but to be honest with ourselves and each other.”
