JoJo Fletcher's second runner-up didn't get along with the scheming beefcake

Chad Johnson made quite a spectacle of himself at The Bachelorette: Men Tell All special, but his former housemate, second runner up Chase McNary wasn’t surprised by the outbursts.

“I was glad that it was finally exposed to everybody else that that’s the same guy we saw the entire time in the house,” McNary tells PEOPLE exclusively. “He’s the same dude.”

As far as why the villainous Johnson continues to command so much attention, McNary has a guess: “He brings the entertainment factor. He cleans up where the boringness doesn’t.”

Still, “I learned early on in the house that what Chad says is irrelevant to me,” says McNary, 27. “I easily identified that he’s not stable. So I stayed away!”

Whether viewers can stay away when Johnson, 28, shows up – and apparently starts at least cast mate’s blood flowing – on Bachelor in Paradise remains to be seen, but one thing is certainly (as Johnson himself has said): “The Chad does what The Chad wants to do.”

The Bachelorette‘s finale airs Monday at 8 p.m. ET, and Bachelor in Paradise premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, both on ABC.
