The Bachelorette‘s Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez celebrated their one-year engagement anniversary last week by reliving some of the special moments from their televised romance.

The duo, who now live in San Diego, took a weeklong trip to the tropical paradise of Bora Bora, where Martinez popped the question to Fedotowsky on the season finale of The Bachelorette.

“We made it to the one year mark!” Fedotowsky proudly told PEOPLE. “The engagement took place last year on May 8th, and when Roberto proposed it was so beautiful. It was great to go back and reflect on the year because it was very special.”

Contrary to reports, neither the network nor Bachelor producers footed the bill for the trip so the couple could rekindle their love for one another.

“That is absolutely not true. ABC had nothing to do with it. Roberto planned this all out for us,” Fedotowsky said. “He surprised me with this and I was really proud of him that he pulled this off. It was so romantic.”

The couple stayed in an over-the-water hut at the Pearl Beach Resort & Spa and enjoyed an active week of snorkeling, kayaking and mountain biking before returning to San Diego, where Martinez is an insurance agent and Fedotowsky is a correspondent for a FOX affiliate.

Is a wedding up next for the couple?

“I’m going to plead the fifth,” Fedotowsky said with a giggle. “Not ready to share any news yet.”

Instead, she prefers to talk about the here and now: “I still feel so lucky,” she said. “We’re so happy we found each other.”
