Bachelor Nation Calls Out Colton After He Sends Tayshia and Hannah G. Home: 'This Is Hard to Watch'

Colton Underwood sent both Tayshia Adams and Hannah Godwin home on Monday night's Bachelor episode after declaring his love for Cassie Randolph

Colton Underwood shocked audiences when he sent not one, but two contestants home during part 1 of the Bachelor finale — and Bachelor Nation didn’t hold back on vocalizing their opinions over his polarizing decision.

On Monday evening, Underwood broke it off with both Tayshia Adams and Hannah Godwin in Portugal after declaring his love for Cassie Randolph.

His surprising decision to send them both home came the day after former frontrunner Randolph abruptly decided to leave during her fantasy suite date. Although Underwood broke traditional show protocol by declaring his love for Randolph before the finale, the 23-year-old speech pathologist couldn’t reciprocate his feelings.

And similar to Randolph, Underwood couldn’t reciprocate Godwin or Adams’ love. As a result, he ended both romances — without even going on the fantasy suite date with Godwin.

During the episode, the Bachelor’s breakups ignited a variety of responses from viewers, including surprise, anger and support.

Speaking with PEOPLE about his decision to break it off with Adams and Godwin, Underwood said that “once I had the conversation with Cassie, my mind was made up. I was either going to leave by myself, or I was leaving with her.”

After the infamous fence jump, Underwood was able to collect his thoughts and realized he needed to break up with both Adams and Godwin in person.

“I had to do what was right, and what was best for them, and that was to have that tough conversation,” he said.

“I knew I could walk away heartbroken,” said the Bachelor star. “But I had to fight for Cassie.”

Part 2 of The Bachelor‘s finale airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
