“We are not in any rush,” Bushnell tells PEOPLE of nuptial plans. “But everyone else around us is! We’re both ready to get married, but we haven’t set a date because we want to make sure we’re not doing it for anyone but ourselves.”
Says Higgins, 28: “It doesn’t say anything about cold feet or second thoughts. We just want to do it on our own terms. And we want to be engaged. We don’t want to look back when we’re fifty and think we could have enjoyed this time more.”
Explains Bushnell, 26, who got engaged to Higgins on the season finale of the show last November: “We just want to be totally confident and comfortable and great about that day and that it’s on our timeline.”
Not that the future Mr. and Mrs., who star on the new reality series, Freeform’s Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? haven’t given some thought to the Big Day.

“I like the idea of a winter wedding,” says Bushnell. “Something really romantic and intimate, with lots of candles.”
Adds her groom-to-be: “I just want to look over at Lauren and know that she is completely filled with joy in that moment. And I want it to be one heck of a party. Love is what life is all about!”
Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After? premieres Oct. 11 on Freeform.
