Life really does imitate art.

Just a few months after her Modern Family character left home, Ariel Winter is pulling an Alex Dunphy and heading to college.

“It’s an AMAZING DAY! I’m going to UCLA – thank you to everyone who has been there for me on this journey! #bruinsbaby,” Winter, 18, captioned an Instagram photo of her acceptance from the Los Angeles school’s offer of admission.

The actress has previously spoken about not letting her acting career keep her from furthering her education. At PEOPLE’s SAG Awards pre-show in January, Winter revealed what she would be doing if she didn’t have awards shows to attend.

“I would be doing exactly what I’m doing, which is going to school, applying to college and wanting to be a social justice lawyer,” she said. “With my personal experience, I would have something good to give.”

Winter shared that she had applied to 17 undergraduate programs and added, “It’s always been a dream of mine to become a lawyer, and social justice just feels like it fits for me. I want to continue acting and also go to law school. I think the more knowledge you have, can only better your life.”

Modern Family airs Wednesdays (9 p.m. ET) on ABC.
