Black-ish star Anthony Anderson has met his fair share of celebrities.

The actor, 47, even chartered a private jet for a day to play golf with former President Barack Obama. “I was in Mexico on vacation, and there were no flights leaving,” he tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “My family was like, ‘You’ve got to go!’ so I chartered a jet to L.A. for the day. It was the most expensive round of golf I’ve ever played.”

But when he found himself seated behind Oscar-winner Halle Berry on a red-eye flight from L.A. to New York City, Anderson admits he was completely starstruck.

“I remember just staring at the back of her head like, ‘Damn, the back of this woman’s head is fine,’ ” he says. “I even took pictures, and I was going to post them but I didn’t want to seem like a stalker. I look at them on occasion!”

All kidding aside, Anderson did talk to Berry, 51, briefly after the flight landed.

“I didn’t want to disturb her,” adds Anderson, who lent his voice to the new animated movie, Ferdinand, as Bones, a fellow bull in the Spanish fighting ring. “I was just happy to look at the back of her head.”

Black-ish airs Tuesdays (9 p.m. ET) on ABC.
