Josh Duggar won’t be dodging flying dishes any time soon.

When his wife Anna learned that her husband of seven years had been cheating on her and concealing his pornography addiction, it’s likely her voice never even raised above a whisper.

“She doesn’t get mad,” a source close to the Duggars tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue. “You are not allowed to get mad. It’s not godly for a woman.”

Like parents Jim Bob and Michelle, Josh and Anna, both 27, prescribe to ultra-conservative patriarchal Christian beliefs that call for a woman to wholly submit to her husband. It’s this influence that sources say has silenced the young mother of four.

“Ever since she met [the Duggars] she has acted more like Michelle,” says the source. “She talks like her, really soft. She, like, whispers.”

When it comes to a support system during this time of marital strife, the source says, outside of the Duggars, Anna just doesn’t have one. “It’s scary. I don’t know who is talking to Anna or how she is dealing with this. Aside from Duggarville no one can get to her.”

While her in-laws and her own like-minded parents, Mike and Suzette Keller, are directing Anna to turn towards her faith at this trying time – “They’re telling her Jesus forgives, Satan is trying to attack your marriage, that kind of stuff” – the source, who spoke to Anna briefly following the news, hopes she finds an outlet soon.

“I looked at her and said, ‘You have not absorbed everything yet. You are going to be pissed off, and you are going to be angry. You are going to want nothing to do with him. You may not be feeling these emotions yet,’ ” the source told Anna, “‘But at one point you will.’ ”
