Knives in his eyes? When it comes to Heidi Montag, Bravo’s Andy Cohen admits he went a little overboard.

“There had been so many rumors going on about the Housewives last week, I think I was at the tipping point, basically,” Cohen told PEOPLE at the Prabal Gurung show as part of New York Fashion Week recently. “I guess I got a little carried away.”

It may not have been the apology that Montag, who had Tweeted that she wanted to join the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, was looking for after calling Cohen’s comments “tasteless” and “hurtful and completely unnecessary.

But the Bravo executive says he has more than enough drama on his plate with his current slate of Housewives.

Part one of the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion aired Sunday night – providing some heated moments between feuding former friends Kim Zolciak and NeNe Leakes. But does Cohen encourage all the on-camera battling at the reunion specials?

“I’m happy for it to go anywhere,” he said. “I just want them to stay in their seats so we can get through the day. If someone has to go adjust their Spanx, then it’s going to cause a whole delay.”

Like so many fans, does Beverly Hills hold a special spot in Cohen’s heart? “Beverly Hills meant a lot to me,” he said. “I loved it so much. Just Lisa Vanderpump. What can you say?”
