"Hold up, girl / We spoke too soon / With this whole no-makeup tune," sing a quartet of fresh-faced boybanders

Amy Schumer, who is currently killing it as a hero for women everywhere, just skewered the music industry’s tendency to sing songs about how you’re beautiful just the way you are – as long as you are conventionally beautiful.

On Tuesday’s Inside Amy Schumer, “Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup” has a quartet of fresh-faced boy-banders telling Schumer: “You’re perfect when you wake up / Just walk around like that all day / Wipe that goop off your face.”

The track is eerily similar in tone to One Direction‘s “What Makes You Beautiful,” the single that launched the boy band to international fame but which had some fairly questionable lyrics that implied that low self-esteem is the way to a boy’s heart. (“Don’t need makeup to cover up / Being the way that you are is enough You don’t know you’re beautiful / That’s what makes you beautiful.”)

When Schumer does as instructed and cheerfully faces the fictional pop group without makeup, they realize they’ve made a huge mistake: “Hold up, girl / We spoke too soon / With this whole no-makeup tune … You’ll be the hottest girl in the nation / With just a touch of foundation.”

The song goes on to poke fun at society’s perception of “natural beauty” when the boys sing that the comedian needs “Just a little makeup / Some natural-looking makeup.”

You know – the kind of “natural” that requires waking up “an hour earlier / And you can make yourself much girlier.” (Schumer’s general takeaway? Do what you want, ladies, because you’ll never please everybody.)

Inside Amy Schumer airs Tuesdays (10:30 p.m. ET) on Comedy Central.
